Also known as the Auroras. in Slavic mythology there are two Zoryas. They are the daughters of Dazbog, the god of the sun. The morning Zorya (Utrennyaya) opens her father’s palace allowing him to travel out in his sun chariot and the evening Zorya (Vechernyaya) closes the palace after his return. Besides that, they both are the guardians of Simargl, a winged dog or lion, chained to the Northern Star. Should the chain ever brake, he will devour the constellation of Ursa Minor which will be the end of the world. So many chores and we are bothering them with yarns. In any case, at our little market stall Zorya takes the form of a wonderfully flowing sport weight blend of baby alpaca with 20% silk. Second in sheen and softness only to her alpaca sister Milda, yet she also has that delicate halo that provides additional warmth.
Yarn made with alpaca fibres is much lighter and warmer (even 5 times more!) than merino wool. It is more oval, more flowing and more delicate, which makes knits with a lot if cables look not that heavy.
Ideal for all kinds of knits, rom hats, through shawls to super soft sweaters. It wonderfully emphasises all kinds of cables.
Since we are highly sensitive to scratching and itching fibres, we share an honest information with You here. We test all our new yarn bases on ourselves, that is humans count 2 and a hairless cat (the hairy one is excluded from the testing) and the results are not conclusive.* Zorya is of the best kind, yet a bit unruly. If like Szymon (Simon), You are very sensitive in this regard, You might get to feel her character. She is definitely nice and warm, but if You are looking for something really subtle, but still with an alpaca base then You should pick Milda DK or if the alpaca contents is not that important to You, choose Vesna
*Agata – for me the yarn is noticeable, it is not that super heavenly soft, yet does not make me want to suddenly take of the knit. And after a few minutes the yarn stops being noticeable. (the hairless one did not complain either)
